About The MI Training Center

MITC is owned and operated by Alicia Shiver and Lindsay Worth who are both members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and licensed counselors.  They have diverse and comprehensive experience in training, coaching, and supervising professionals and behavioral health critical supporters and have a combined 40 years of experience working in clinical research, addictions, education, healthcare, and correctional settings.

MITC has received numerous government grants to provide training and education services in New Mexico. We have supported and facilitated two virtual MINT-Endorsed Training of New Trainer programs in 2020 and 2021 with participants attending from 14 countries. We continue to support people in learning and implementing motivational interviewing and have successfully worked with over 10,000 people in our 9 years of business.

Alicia and Lindsay live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the home of Motivational Interviewing (MI). They currently work with and learn from William Miller, Ph.D. and Theresa Moyers, Ph.D. in their training and research program. This opportunity, along with years of MI teaching experience, has supported us in training and supporting others in Motivational Interviewing and other evidence-based practices.

University of Washington

Lindsay is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 25 years of experience in mental health and addictions research at the University of New Mexico. Currently, she work with the University of Washington’s Northwest ATTC, where she support efforts to strengthen the addiction workforce through training, consultation, and the implementation of evidence-based treatment and recovery practices.

Lindsay has been training in Motivational Interviewing for the past 15 years, working with groups in New Mexico, across the United States, and internationally. She loves the opportunity to collaborate with diverse communities and settings, and is especially interested in empathy, change and sustain talk—the “music of language”—and the research base that supports MI. What she enjoy most is helping others explore how MI can deepen connection, inspire change, and strengthen practice in meaningful ways.
