About
This course examines the OARS framework—Open Questions, Affirmations, Reflective Listening, and Summaries—which forms the foundation of Motivational Interviewing. Participants will learn to distinguish between gathering facts and exploring a client’s perspective to better support individual autonomy. The curriculum covers the construction of simple and complex affirmations, the four-step process for making effective reflections, and the use of summaries to organize a client’s experience. By applying these specific communication techniques, practitioners can improve engagement and help guide individuals toward meaningful behavioral changes.
