About the Event

Course Description

Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) is an evidence-based program to assist families that are challenged by the substance use issues of a loved one.   It uses an overall positive approach and steers clear of confrontation.  CRAFT emphasizes how to work with families to teach new skills to cope with old problems. Some of the components include how to stay safe, understand the function of substance use disorders, and teach caregivers how to use positive reinforcers (rewards) and how to let a loved one who experiences issues with substance use suffer the natural consequences for their using behavior.

At the conclusion of this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the use of a Functional Analysis of Loved One’s Substance Use
  • Explain how positive reinforcement can guide a loved one towards reductions or the elimination of addictive and compulsive behaviors.
  • Describe positive communication can be used to guide a loved one towards accessing treatment/recovery services.
  • Increase the quality of life of persons who have a loved one struggling with addictive and compulsive behaviors.
