About the Event
This two-day training will introduce a culturally-centered adaptation to the traditional structure and tasks of standard Brief Motivational Interventions. The first day will cover the rationale and process of cultural adaptations and focus on the process of developing three tailored intervention tools with direct input from training participants for this cultural enhancement. The second day will focus on skills practice in the three culturally-centered tools, while at the same time promoting the practice of Motivational Interviewing spirit and skills.
Patricia Juarez, MS, and Reyna Puentes, MS, are trainers with the Latino Alcohol & Health Disparities Research and Training Center (LAHDR) in El Paso, Texas. They are both members of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and have trained globally in topics relating to health disparities, substance use, brief interventions, culturally adapted treatments and motivational interviewing.Â
