About the Event

Completion of the introductory course or foundational knowledge of trauma informed principles recommended.   In this advanced workshop, you will learn how to put your foundational knowledge of racial trauma into action. Participants will:

-study multiple models and clinical interventions for treating racial trauma, including the Healing Racial Trauma Treatment Protocol, Racial Trauma Recovery model, and Race Informed Trauma Clinical Model

-learn racial trauma coping skills and tools to share with BIPOC clients (including ways to prepare for racist encounters)

-engage in therapist/client role play scenarios about race, informed by knowledge of ethnocultural transference and countertransference

-gain understanding of the components of a racial trauma informed intake assessment

-continue to explore somatic abolitionism and anti-racist self reflection practices

The trainer, Sheila Ciminera, LCSW is a social worker and owner of To Bear Witness Therapy.  She began her career working in syringe exchange and has been a proud harm reductionist ever since. Over the past 16 years, she has had the privilege of being a case manager, program developer, individual and group therapist, clinical supervisor, acudetox specialist, professor, and trainer. Her primary focus is supporting helping professionals with compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. She also specializes in working with individuals dealing with trauma, addictions, and justice involvement- all through the lens of trauma-informed care.

This workshop is eligible for 6 cultural hours of continuing education credit through the NM Counseling and Therapy Practice Board and the American Psychological Association (APA).
