About the Event

This training explores the application of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the MI-Lead model within various military-related contexts. The training emphasizes practical application, cultural sensitivity, and leadership development through MI concepts and strategies.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Enhancing communication and goal setting by Air Officer Commanders (AOCs) with cadets at the United States Air Force Academy.

  • Training non-commissioned officers through the U.S. Army’s Talk Like a Leader (TLAL) program to improve interactions, soldier performance, and mission readiness using MI techniques.

  • Increasing engagement with mental health services among active-duty service members using MI strategies.

  • Supporting veterans through peer-led MI interventions to manage stress, promote self-care, and reduce mental health symptoms.

  • Addressing cultural considerations specific to military populations when applying MI techniques.

  • Utilizing MI-Lead in leadership development, emphasizing the balance between organizational demands, mission readiness, and individual wellbeing.

  • Applying MI-Lead’s four-step model to navigate organizational conflict, engage in effective leadership and supervision, and handle challenging conversations.

  • Building competence in MI-Lead application, including identifying common implementation challenges and exploring solutions.
