About the Event

This class is led by Dr. Elizabeth Yeater and will cover the etiology, assessment, and treatment approaches for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  After this class, you will be able to:

- Demonstrate a theoretical and practical understanding of PTSD

- Describe the best practices and measures for assessing for PTSD

- Recognize the comorbid mental health conditions commonly associated with PTSD

- Describe risk factors associated with the development of PTSD

- Understand the relationship between memory for traumatic events and PTSD

- Demonstrate an understanding of the best evidence-based interventions for PTSD

- Recognize timing of PTSD treatment based on clients’ other presenting problems

Dr. Elizabeth Yeater, received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno and completed her clinical internship at the University of California, San Diego, where she worked primarily with veterans with PTSD. Prior to being hired at the University of New Mexico, Dr. Yeater completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Clinical Science at Indiana University. Dr. Yeater is a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology at the UNM where she has served for 12 years as the Director of Clinical Training for the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology. She has dedicated over 20 years of her academic research career investigating risk factors for sexual violence against women and developing interventions to reduce incidents of sexual assault on college campuses. Dr. Yeater’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) since 2013, and she has published extensively in the area of sexual violence. As a graduate student, she was trained clinically in both Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and currently trains clinical psychology doctoral students in both treatments while also supervising these clinical cases. Dr. Yeater also has clinical expertise in treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) with Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) as well as expertise in treating other common anxiety disorders (e.g., Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder).
